"The Apple Thief" by Samuel Frost Johnson Measuring just 15 3/4" x 12 1/2" sight in a period gilt frame, this delightful little painting depicts two children caught in the act of stealing from the larder. It is signed lower left (see detail). Samuel Frost Johnson, also known as Frost Johnson, was born in New York in 1835, worked in Europe in the 1860's, and returned to the US in the 1870's to teach at both Fordham University and the Metropolitan Museum. The painting has been strip lined on the original stretcher, and exhibits minor in-painting under black light. $5,200.00 |
