18th Century English Fire Mark The Sun Fire Insurance Co. was founded in 1710, and operated under that name into the early 19th century, when it was merged with two other concerns. Firemarks of distinctive design were placed on buildings covered by a policy with that company to identify them to the fire brigades in their employ. The early fire marks, such as this one, were cast in lead with the policy number. Later firemarks were stamped from copper or cast in iron. $695.00
