Grand Ledge Sewer Tile Lion

This recumbent lion, measuring 9 1/4" x 4 1/2" on the base, has all the characteristic attributes associated with those made at the Grand Ledge Sewer Pipe works in Grand Ledge, MI. Objects such as this...novelties...were made by the tile workers during their lunch hours for firing in the kilns with the factory product. The sewer tile folk art objects, now highly collectible, were originally sold as an important subsidy to their meagre incomes.
